About :

Magic Ear is the As Seen on TV sound amplifier that allows you to hear quiet sounds from across the room. Today I put this device and its advertising claims to the test. I bought this for $20 at Bulbhead.com.

Maybe this company need to make a noise canceling Magic 👂 Ear. I still think if a person with a hearing problem might appreciate the device.

This reminds me of those "Drive Inn Movie" speakers. The ones you pick off the speaker pole and hung on your window. Haha, a lot of people don't know what I am talking about.

If I might add, I recently bought this on an impulse while in line at Walmart. (Imagine that!). My first reaction was the same as yours. If you're not expecting, it WILL pierce you! But, the whole thing is pretty much gimmicky (for lack of a better word). Yes is does kinda amplify noise, but only slightly. It's basically a condensed microphone, which means it's going to capture every sound in the room, which is the part I'm referring to as being gimmicky. The fact that you can pick up every noise in the room, not to mention the fact that when you're handling the device you can hear it extremely, is the whole gimmick. It gives you a sense of, "Oh, wow! This thing is powerful!", when all it's doing is sensitizing every sound as opposed to amplifying it. Or I should say IT'S sensitive to all sounds.

I was contemplating getting one...Your review was great as it answered all the question going around in my head...Keep up the good work...And thanks...It is the static and background noise that would worry me, it does so without a device so I certainly do not want to amplifier it....Cheers

Your video convinced me that this device is not bad (for $22.50 each) as a backup for my 90-year old mom's Pioneer Nani.
I feel your review was overly critical of such a cheap device. Seriously, anything else in this product category is many multiples in price.

This is designed for those with poor hearing, rather than normal /good hearing. Background noise can be heard, but it is useful at home.

I have bought two of this and i noticed that the earphone does not give a good output sound, as it does minimizes the sounds that you hear. I suggest that you change the earphone rubber to the ones like that of a behind or in-ear hearing aid. The fuzzy sound or the background sound may come from the systems amplification of sound and not from the mic or the sounds it picked up from the surroundings coz even if you covered the mic you still hear it.

They should use better noise suppression for hiss.

The fact that it removes low frequencies is actually good for people with hearing loss. My father has difficulty to hear sound in church because they are using amplifiers that amplify low end too much and church has lots of echoes, so it sounds very boomy to my father. He would actually like it very much if boomy low-end was removed leaving only human speech range amplified.

I can set six feet from my TV turn it down low I can hear it better without the ear thing that I can with it the only benefit from it as if you were totally deaf and somebody was speaking into it you can probably hear otherwise I think it's pretty crappy I was sitting here holding it underneath my phone and my phone turned low and I can hear it that way unless you're going to stand up beside your TV you're not going to be able to hear it I turned it up to 15 and I still can't hear the TV is good as I can without using the miracle air not a very good product unless you're hearing is impaired

By what I can tell from the audio in the video. The magic ear amplifies mostly the higher pitched sounds. Most hearing loss is in that range. Where as it might sound like crap to a normal person. To A hearing impaired person like myself, it actually sounds more clear. Distorted of course, but much more understandable.

Picked this up today. It works. The beep isn't annoying to me but I'd like it if the volume buttons repeated when you held them. The earbuds sound terrible (Very little bass and lots of treble) but sound OK on my little kicker amp I use on my phone. I have the Yahoo Hit clips downloader which is a recorder and the magic ear seems to work fine on it.

good presentation and analysis of this magic ear, mister, the problem with this device is the lack of digital processor the one that can remove the background noise and keep the one that we are interested about, that is done in professional ear hearing help devices that might cost more than 600$ and really help people outdoors, this device outdoors can create more problems with the people with ear problems and make hearing more problematic than before deteriorating ear functionality , after watching your presentation I realize that indoors can be help indeed !! , bought one for my elderly mother and will test it , Best thing for hearing problem people is to visit a doctor and after examination he will let them know what's best for them ! I am electronic technician, when i get it i will do some experements in the mic section to remove that annoying 1khz background voice that no ones want and improve if i can bass and little temple of the sound, and let everyone know if i succeed to improve this device.

I bought 2 magic ear units for my wife who lost a great deal of her hearing due to radiation therapy for brain Cancer. I bought 2 units in case one went bad, she would have a back up to use. The units seem to work well (IF YOU CAN KEEP THE EAR PIECE CONNECTED ). Both units have to have the ear piece jack pulled sideways and taped firmly to the receiver box to get the damn things to work ! If you move the unit even a little bit the connection is lost in the jack plug !

I agree that older people or hard of hearing folks would be a much better barometer of this device?... Using your 16-20-year-old son is not much of a test of "on and off" tests or "with it and without it".testing.????

It does seem to be BETTER INDOORS in the quiet,..?... HOWEVER, IT WOULD SEEM THAT ~ ELECTRIC FANS & AIRCONDITIONING etc would make the same BACKGROUND WIND NOISES that you get when using this device OUTSIDE...?

I have been researching for devices to help us with our 45 year marriage. A couple of years ago her hearing has became an issue, to the point where I'm basically having to holler at her (who then is upset because I was hollering at her) unfortunately We lost most of our savings due to a lawsuit just before I retired and I barely avoided having our home foreclosed, so no hearing aids in our future. Obviously I love her but we've got to do something to solve this issue.
