Thanks for your clear demo. It's exactly our unit. Followed exactly your instructions, including hearing the residual electric charge after the battery had been taken off. The chirping stopped after installing ne battery. However, the unit flashes red light after every 30 second interval. I followed exactly how you did it. Any response is appreciated.

Thank you for this well explained video! There’s nothing worse than a heart-stopping alarm at 3:30am, getting a ladder to change the battery, AND IT GOES OFF AGAIN!! Ours are interconnected, so the whole house was going off over a 2 hour period... UNTIL I finally pinpointed the breaker, which finally shut them off!!! My gosh!
QUESTION: Should I leave breaker off while I’m uninstalling/replacing/reinstalling all alarms? Thank you!!!!

BTW, I just tried this and it still chirping with brand new battery. I am going to leave it disconnected for a day or 2 and see if it resets. It all started with my CO2 alarm doing triple chirping in the middle of the night and that resulted in me pulling the battery out of smoke detector by mistake and putting it back it started chirping and doing reset it's also chirping even with new battery.

Is there a minimum voltage on the 9v battery before it starts beeping?

I had a floor to ceiling renovation on my bedroom last year. When they lowered the ceiling & installed high hats, they left the smoke detector either behind the sheetrock or still attached to the original ceiling. It is now beeping every thirty seconds. Manufacturer says the battery should die in a week or so. Six weeks & counting.

This also works with alarms made by companies that try to make people just buy new ones. Pull the batteries and drain the charge.

Could the over charge cause it to randomly go off or hold the red light? I've dusted mine, reset, and

Hi. So my alarms are beeping not chirping every 30 minutes. I replaced the batteries on all 4 hard wired alarms after I shut off the breaker. I turned the breaker back on and nothing... 3 hours later a loud beep again. 😫 Do you have any other suggestions before I rip my hair out? Thanks!

I have this same smoke detector and it ended up being the 9 volt battery. It was showing 7.8 volts so I replaced it with a new one. I reset it like you showed, so hopefully it's stop chirping. It only did it once in a while, but seems like the same time every night.

Nice video. One question though. I've read to turn off circuit breaker to smoke detectors before disconnecting them. Is it really necessary? My circuit breaker doesnt have the smoke detectors labeled.

Do you need turn off the electricity at the circuit-breaker before detaching the smoke detector from the base? I seen 1 video that said to do so, and 2 videos that did not mention anything about shutting down the electricity. I’m thinking it’s not necessary but I thought I wold ask.

One of my wired detectors (just like the one you have) started emitting 3 loud beeps every few minutes. It was not the usual chirp it emits when low on battery, but the normal sound it makes when smoke is detected. I also have monitored smoke alarms that were silent, so I knew that there was no fire. I unscrewed that detector off the mount and suddenly all of the connected detectors started beeping. I did not remove the electrical connection to the detector and simply screwed it back in because others were still asleep. I have not tried your procedure to reset the alarm. I am hoping that the units have not reached EOL because they have been installed since 2004. As luck would have it, these alarms pick the best time (very early morning) to unsettle everyone in the house!

Hello Great video! I have the same smoke detector as you have. Do I need to turn off the power before I unplug it? I think it's safe because it's not hard wired into the house, but I just wanted to check. Thanks

Thanks for posting this, Michael. I just reset the faulty alarm that was waking us between 1 and 2 AM regularly. I took the time to do the rest of the house's alarms as well. Hopefully we've heard the last of the chirping.
While I had them down, I also blew some dust out of each one with compressed air, as I had read about elsewhere. Seemed like a good idea. Much appreciated!

Thanks so much! I had all but given up hope. 2 upstairs were going off for months then my basement started up last week and the final straw was this morning when I heard my hallway started. So I found your video did the procedures on the hallway and it worked. I went upstairs and did 1of the 2 and that worked the basement for some reason has AA batteries and it didn't work so I have to find out why.
