I have fibromyalgia and chronic constipation for 11 years. I started eating this and completely cured of constipation. but after 2 weeks I am having stomach cramps whenever I eat it. I been including milled flax seed mix with dry milk and raw wheat germ to dress my mornings rolled oats adding cup of apple sauce and a mix of cinnamon cloves nutmeg and ginger in a shaker applied generosity. I'm curious about the effects on flax/lignans on testosterone levels in men.
I found this from a National Institutes of Health study found in the National Library of Medicine.
Consumption of high lignan foods may cause binding of testosterone in the enterohepatic circulation and subsequent excretion (Adlercreutz et al, 1987). Lignan also has been found to increase levels of sex hormone binding globulin and thus reduce the amount of free circulating testosterone (Adlercreutz et al, 1987, Martin et al., 1996), though such a reduction has not been observed in all studies (Low et al, 2005). Lignan also may hinder the production of 5 α–reductase (the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, the more biologically active and potent form)(Evans et al, 1995). Subsequent research by Morton and colleagues (1997) found that high lignan diets may be protective against prostate cancer, another disorder which is linked to high androgen levels (testosterone).
Flaxseed, a food generally renowned for its omega-3 fatty acid content, also is one of the richest sources of dietary lignan, having levels that are 800-fold over that of most other foods, (Thompson, 1995). Prior studies on the use of flaxseed or isolated lignan suggest that it may decrease androgen levels and normalize lipid levels; however, most of this research has been conducted in male subjects. (Adlercreutz et al, 1987, Demark-Wahnefried et al, 2001, Shultz & Leklam, 1983, Slavin et al, 1997).

I drink it for my gastritis (non-helicobacter). I undergone a course of medications and take flax seed mucus as supplementary on recommendation of my doctor. Here’s a receipt. Pour two tablespoons of flax seeds into small jar and pour twice amount of boiling water. Close the jar with a lid and let it cool down. Then shake it till you see mucus. Then shake some more (shake how much you can - 10 minutes is enough). This mucus is a flax seed water! I drink it with the seeds, but you can take just the mucus, on an empty stomach in the morning (doctors recommendation). I often take after food, soothing my stomach.
