About :

PLY Magazine is running a Spinalong to coincide with the launch of their book, 51 Yarns to Spin Before You Cast Off. You can post your entries on their Facebook, Instagram and Ravelry groups with the hashtags #51yarns, #handspunyarn and #plymagazine. There's a different theme each week and you can find a list of the topics and other information here: https://plymagazine.com/ply-books/51-yarns-spinalong/ The best part is that one winner each week gets a one-year subscription to PLY! I've decided to play along in video form as well by creating a video each week to correspond with that week's spinalong theme.

This week it's "True Worsted" and I talk about the details of this fundamental spinning skill.

The Valkyrie Combs chart I mentioned is here: https://www.rhonna.net/reviews/valkyrie-wool-combs

If you're wondering where weeks 18—20 are, I'll be going back and filling in the gaps over the next couple of months.

Next week (w/c Monday 27th August) is Energised Singles. Hope to see you again then. In the meantime, happy spinning!

I enjoy the worsted style and love working with the combed top the best. Still working one my consistent thickness. I am however working with rather short fibers vs what you showed. I am learning with Jacob fleece. Im looking forward to using longer fiber. What is the fiber you were using in this video?

Thanks very much for making this video! After an hour spent combing, dizzing, and then spinning alpaca I am pleased to have learned that I'm well on my way to making a true worsted! I'm a novice spinner, getting to know my first wheel (a Matchless) and my new English-style combs. They seem to work well with alpaca, and also get the job done with a hodgepodge blend of angora and merino I've thrown together.

Thanks again for giving a name to the somewhat lumpy handcombed top I'm spinning. I wonder how it will look, once plied. I'll be sure to share a photo on IG, and tag you if you'd like. 😁
