Australian native plants are well adapted to bush fires. Some even need fires to thrive.

Yes! Unfortunately the homes will take a lot longer to rebuild but it does inspire hope.

We need to learn to live with the nature of our bush, or knock it all down. At least we've learn to protect our lives this time.

Great post! Fire is part of nature, she knows what she is doing.

As I understand it, fire as such isn't the problem (it's even necessary now and then). Problem is all of it is on fire at the same time.

Because an ecosystem can regenerate after being destroyed does not mean it NEEDS to be destroyed. If you die, you become something else, /1

CryptikRuin . 2020-01-14 10:07:54
/2 but YOU are no more. Proper forest maintenance and logging prevent this unnecessary damage and destruction.

Anyone else get reminded of the end scene of Ferngully when everything grows back when seeing these photos?

E.g. the pines in America,. Some of the cones are open, but the closed ones need heat to spread their seeds. *insert immature joke*

Serious question, how has snakes and other reptiles been affected by the bush fires?
1 0
egaode . 2020-01-14 10:57:21
Those trees have not died. Better to say perhaps that plants have adapted to fire. There have always been and always will be bushfires.

EveryYellowMolecule . 2020-01-14 10:58:17
This is untrue. Some species of Australian fauna thrive when exposed to fire situations but there are numerous species now extinct 1/2
11 3
EveryYellowMolecule . 2020-01-14 10:58:36
as they cannot tolerate or regrow from fire.
6 3
Muftai . 2020-01-14 11:04:35
Fire helps with that too, to some extent
9 0
Muftai . 2020-01-14 11:06:43
Normally yes. But some plants in Australia don't actually spread their seeds without fire. It speaks about the hostility of the land 1/2

It doesn't care about our involvement. 2/2

Southern California is the same. But people don't like fire so the dead materials build up and that makes the fires worse

So long as the animals can survive this horrible present day tragedy this will likely lead to a rejuvenatation of the land in years to come.

egaode . 2020-01-14 11:44:08
True, many animals are not well adapted. Also in some instances the fires were too hot even for the plants to regenerate from.
